Catching up

I have had an exciting and busy couple of months :) last week I finished my placement at Tigerprint which was amazing! I'd highly recommend every one checks out their website and for any budding designers...get entering the competitions for a chance to see your design in M&S.

I would love to show you what I have been doing but it's top secret .. Shhh :) you will just have to wait and see.

I have also been doing some design work for 'Ask' the Italian restaurant chain. Pics will be uploaded soon :).

This week I have started my new job as a Textile designer for SMD Textiles so very exiting things are happening at the minute.

I have some personal projects on the go also and will blogging about them soon.

Hallmark Placement

Today was my first day on placement, had a really good day:) the sun shinning just topped it off. Working with laser cut designs = perfection.
Really need a laser cutter of my own in my life, best get saving.

I love this ice cream parlour with every flavour you could possibly imagine. I am going to develop a colour pallet based this theme for a new collection of surface pattern.

Graduation

Yesterday I graduated from UCLan And won the Deans award to creative contribution to Surface Pattern:)
We were lucky enough to have nice weather and the whole event was lovely. I'm going to miss Uni but am very excited for the future!

British wild flowers

Just starting to do some watercolour painting today. I'm going to study wild British flowers to base a new collection of patterns around.
A lot of the wild flowers get forgotten as people focus on more exotic plants. I feel this collection will evoke a sense of nostalgia and a reference to country living and wildlife.

Today I have been working on developing the wild floral collection. I have enjoyed working with this colour pallet and could see these prints on textiles and stationary.

Wild Florals

I have been working on some designs based on wild flowers using a pastel colour scheme, this afternoon. Let me know what you think. I have added some acidic green to the pallet to make it more vibrant.

Finished the first illustration of many, so many ideas for application to pattern and stationary.
The brief for the Tigerprint design a day competition challenges you to work with a restricted pallet of black and white.
Think it looks pretty good without colour but might try adding some watercolour on CAD.
I shall keep you guys posted on my process as I develop this further.

Busy week at New Designers

Iv been exhibiting all week at New Designers, had such an amazing week and so many opportunities. Would defiantly recommend it to any future graduates, the exposure you get and contacts you will make is life changing.

New Designers - Set up day

Today has been a long day. Setting up our stand to exhibit at New Designers. Everyones work looks great it's going to be a good event. Very exited for the launch of the Tigerprint Competition tomorrow.

In London today having a nice day of exploring and sight seeing before an exiting week at New Designers. Great weather today perfect for a walk along the river to south bank for some weird and wonderful entertainment.

Results day

I'm over the moon with my 1st class degree in Surface Patter. Feel like I'm in the real world now, don't even have time to celebrate off to London tomorrow. Best and most challenging 3 years of my life.

Press Packs

Working on press packs for new designers today.
Applying my designs to interiors to give an idea how the collection would look.
Almost finished, just waiting for my degree results to be released tomorrow to print my CV's exciting times.

Absolut Blank Competition

Today I have been making changes to one of my designs to be entered into the Absolut Blank competition. The brief is very open and without limits, so I have chosen to use vibrant colours to make it stand out. I'v been working on a design I already have as I want to gain awareness of my wrk and It's in my usual style so It should be recognisable as my work.

Im having difficulty sending the file, fingers crossed it gets there in time.

Competitions are great to keep creative juices flowing especially when the brief is very specific and is asking you to design something out of your comfort zone. I like to be challenged as it helps develop new skills and make you into a diverse designer.

Degree Show Opening

Last night was my degree show opening, everyones work looked great and I was pleased at the turn out of guests.

Just before the opening there was an awards ceremony held and I was very pleased to be nominated for a Creative Focus Fashion Award especially as only one student from each course within the category was chosen.

I had a great time and enjoyed speaking to people about my work, very please at the interest my work was receiving. Below are some sneak peaks of my stand in the Textiles Exhibition :

Welcome

Welcome to my blog.

Here I will share my design work, inspiration, interests and experiences.

I have just finished my Surface Pattern degree and am about to open my degree show, I will be giving you an insight into the world of a design graduate as I launch my brand 'Fancy Folk'. Follow me on my journey as I exhibit my work and share ideas for future projects, giving an insight to my design processes and how I put my patters together.

The next couple of weeks will be very exiting as I meet with press, attend an awards ceremony and prepare for the New Designers show in London. Where I will be exhibiting from the 27th-30th June at The Business and Design Centre, Islingdon.
